Back to the Future Movie Screening
What better way to kick off “Back to the Present” than with the movie that inspired this year’s theme? Come enjoy the time-traveling adventure with Marty McFly and Doc Brown! Join us for snacks and an optional discussion afterwards. 7-9pm, Wilson 402 Puzzle Poesis Scavenger Hunt Puzzle Poetry, Prof. Brad Pasanek Calling all wordsmiths and puzzlemasters! This multi-day scavenger hunt invites you to decipher clues, solve riddles, and traverse the landscape in order to unlock the secrets the Puzzle Poetry group has hidden around the UVA Grounds. First person or team to solve all of the puzzles wins a grand prize of $250! Second place earns $150, and a third finisher will win $100. Fly solo or combine forces with up to three others* to compete in this epic cross-campus adventure! *Registration begins at 12pm on Monday, but individuals & teams are welcome to join throughout the week! Tabletop Time Machine
Chandler Jennings, English M.A. student Join three UVA classes for a 3-hour board games extravaganza! Play your favorite board games as well as all-new games created by UVA students. Learn about how games can help shed light on important issues in our community, and collaborate in original storytelling adventures. UVA Sustainability, IHGC Adopt a plant and bring a living piece of the Earth into your home! Plant seedlings in recycled glasses and bottles and help them find caring homes! Are you a graduating senior with plants you can no longer care for? We’ll take them! 4-5pm, South Lawn AI or Human? Prof. Allan Stam, Jennifer Sessions, Elizabeth Orrico, and more... With the academic world panicking about ChatGPT and AI’s capabilities, it’s time to ask… can professors tell the difference between student and AI writing? Architecture School This activity takes the participants on a journey through the organizers’ choice of music. The music chosen will direct the participants to design a physical space with a lot of room for creative freedom. On this journey, the participants will feel the flow of rhythm through their fingers into their creation. 1-2pm, South Lawn Broadway Talks Back Featuring: Salisha Thomas Salisha Thomas is a Broadway performer in Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, as well as a former Disney vocalist and Miss California! She will be coming to UVA to lead a dance workshop and participate in a Talkback with students. Learn choreography from Beautiful: The Carole King Musical and Broadway's upcoming Once Upon a One More Time, a musical featuring music of Britney Spears. Dancers of all levels are welcome - no formal training or experience required. Wear clothing that you can move in! At the Talkback, learn all about being on Broadway, being part of the development of a new Broadway musical, learning the music of both Carole King and Britney Spears, and more! Bring your questions.
